Since 2005, Chef Pei Shuen has worked in the F&B field. Beginning her journey as a freelance cake designer, Pei Shuen founded Cherylshuen and eventually opened a brick-and-mortar bakery, operating successfully for over 12 consecutive years.
Her creative talents can be seen from her real-life looking handcrafted sugar flowers. Her splendour figurines and sculptured cakes; coupled with her artistic use of colours, often create eye-catching cakes and received many compliments from customers and their guests. She has vast experience in conceptualizing and coordinating thematic parties and dessert tables.
Pei Shuen has garnered numerous accolades from satisfied customers. Her past clients have included large corporates as Chopard, Deloitte Singapore, Google, Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Marc Jacobs, OCBC Bank and others.
Pei Shuen has been featured on radio and TV programs, profiled in newspapers and magazines such as 联合早报, Epicure, Tatler Weddings, Style:Weddings, 南洋艺术, Icon Weddings, Female Brides, Herworld Brides and Wedding & Travel, to name a few.
With an intention to broaden the appeal of the cake design to a wider audience, Pei Shuen started teaching 7 years ago, conducting hands-on classes and demos in front of audiences at Tott’s, Kinokuniya, Suntec Convention Centre, Phoon Huat and other commercial venues. In addition, Pei Shuen is the author of “Step By Step Cake Decorating With Cherylshuen”, published by Marshall Cavendish.
In 2017, Pei Shuen welcomed a new baby into her family. She decided to fulfil her lifelong dream of teaching and sharing her passion for home cooking. With her previous background in creating bespoke cake and sweets, Cheryl believes home cooking should not only be nourishing for the body but also pleasing to the eye. She brings a strong rigorousness and attention to testing and to optimizing recipes for Chinese, Western, Thai, Japanese and various cuisines.
Growing up in Malaysia, Chef Pei Shuen is competent to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin), English, Bahasa and Cantonese. Believing happiness is homemade, Pei Shuen teaches clients how to create delicious home cook food and how to present food for maximum appeal. Food is, after all, what brings family and friends together.
